The Sturmgeschütz III, or StuG III, was a German assault gun used extensively during World War II. It was based on the chassis of the Panzer III tank, but with a powerful 75mm gun mounted in a fixed casemate, making it a highly effective anti-tank weapon. The StuG III was relatively inexpensive to produce and highly adaptable, serving in various roles, from anti-tank warfare to direct fire support.
